Accessibility Information
Web Accessibility Initiative
We have set out to achieve the highest standards of
accessibility, in line with the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)
and Government guidelines.
While we strive to keep our website in line with the current web
accessibility standards, we need feedback from real web users. Do
you have a disability that affects the way you use the web? For
example, do you use assistive technologies such as a screen-reader?
Do you find this site easy to use? Is there anything we could do to
improve accessibility? Contact us to tell us what you think.
Text sizing
There are various ways to change the size of the text displayed
on each page.
At the top of each page on the right hand side, the text size
can be increased or decreased by clicking on the ‘A A A’ icon.
You can also change the text size settings in your web browser.
In most web browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer) this is done by going
to the 'View' menu and selecting the 'Text size' option.
Listening to web site content using Dixerit Plus
You can listen to pages on our website using Dixerit Plus. To
display the Dixerit Plus toolbar, click on the 'Listen to this
page' text displayed on every page.
You can then listen to a page, in several different ways:
Highlight the text you want to listen to and click the “Read
Text” icon
Hover your mouse cursor over the paragraph you want to listen to
and click the “Paragraph” icon that appears
Click the “Read Links” icon to have all the links on the page
read out to you. To follow a link, enter its number into the “Go
to” box and click “Go”.
Browser and operating system support
Dixerit Plus fully supports Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac and
GNU/Linux operating systems for its reading functions and has been
extensively tested with the most popular operating systems and
browsers.
For users of Mozilla Firefox under Linux we recommend the use of
MozPlugger as a media player. MozPlugger is distributed under the
GNU General Public License and can be obtained from http://mozplugger.mozdev.org/.
Dixerit Plus also supports Apple Mac operating systems (OS9 and
later) and has been fully tested with Safari.
The additional software applications provided as part of Dixerit
Plus - WebRead, Magnifier and Contrast - require a Microsoft
Windows operating system. Users of Linux and Apple Mac operating
systems should utilise the free accessibility software available on
their platforms, including the built-in Zoom under OS-9 and OS-X,
and Gnopernicus under Linux.
